2003 - National Finals in Dundee and Fundraising

In March 2003, Daventry Brass became Midlands Regional 3rd Section Champions. This was the first time in the bands history and only the fourth time the band has qualified for the Finals. It is a great honour for the band, not only are they representing the town and county but the Midlands Region. This page has been put together to show how money was raised to enable the band to go and pictures of our time at the finals, in Dundee over the weekend 19th - 21st September.

Fund Raising - Sponsored Cyle Ride On a bright warm Saturday in September about 20 member and supporters of the band swapped brass and mouthpieces for pedals and saddles and took part in a ride around Pitsford Water to raise fund for the trip to Dundee.

We have raised in excess of £2000. £750 came from Barclays Bank Employee Involvement scheme, £ for £ matching.

A big thank you to all who took part and to those who sponsored us.

National Finals - Dundee 19th - 21st SeptemberWhat a great weekend was had by all.

First stop BBC Radio Northampton on their Big Day Out. They happened to be live from Daventry and we couldn't miss an oportunity for a good send off.

The drive to Perth, where we were staying, was excellent no hold ups on the motorway.

After rehearsals at our hotel on both Friday and Saturday we made our way to Caird Hall in Dundee for the contest. Out of the 20 bands competing we drawn number 8. At about 5pm we went on stage and gave it our best shot. 115 bands from around the country competed at Regional heats in order to gain a place in the 3rd Section finals. When the results where announced, later that evening, we where award 171 points and gained a respectable 11th place.

We would especially like to thank our driver Paul, from TRS coaches, who did a sterling job all weekend.

Having had 2 weeks of solid rehearsals most people slept on the way up. Didn't get a chance to get a picture of everyone, but thought that Paul dreaming of the test piece was worth putting on the website!
